Protection for consumers

The Act Respecting Reserved Designations and Added-Value Claims provides consumers with the assurance that products bearing designations are authentic products.

When recognized, designations guarantee consumers that the products they purchase are authentic. If they see a recognized designation on a product, they can rest assured that the product complies with the authenticity criteria that distinguish it.

Consumers are demanding more information on the origin, nature, production and processing methods of food products. Given the diversity of products now on the market and the overload of information covering them, recognized reserved designations are an effective way to provide consumers with information on the specific authenticity characteristics of certain foods.
