Farmstead Cheese

The added-value claim Farmstead Cheese is intended to protect cheeses made by producer/processors from milk that comes entirely from their own operations.

  • On June 22, 2015, the Conseil des Appellations Réservées et des Termes Valorisants received an application for authorization of the Farmstead Cheese added-value claim for examination.

  • On November 2 and December 10, 2015 and on April 7, 2016, the expert committee conducted a preliminary assessment of the file before setting up a verification team tasked with examining the application from a practical point of view.

  • On August 9, 2016, the verification team delivered its comments to the applicant group.

  • On June 12, 2017, the Conseil des Appellations Réservées et des Termes Valorisants initiated a public consultation lasting 60 days. 

  • On August 19, 2017, le Conseil des Appellations Réservées et des Termes Valorisants passed on the results of the public consultation to the applicant.

  • On February 5, 2019, the Conseil des Appellations Réservées et des Termes Valorisants received a response to the results of the public consultation from the applicant.

  • On March 8, 2019, the expert committee conducted its final assessment of the file.

  • On February 20, 2020, the Board issued a positive opinion regarding the authorization of the added-value claim Fromage fermier.

  • On February 24, 2020, the Board delivered a positive opinion regarding authorization to the Ministre de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec.

  • On May 5, 2021, the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, André Lamontagne, announces the publication in the Gazette officielle du Québec of the draft regulation on value-added terms. A public consultation is initiated, lasting 45 days.
